SYM : 09 - irr.app.(ext.) - Hymns to the Extrusiarch CD
Behind the mysterious notion "Extrusiarch" we find the concept of a 'creation myth' or energy that, loosely based on Gnosticism, is a kind of membrane that transforms unformed things into physical ones, or preliminary matter into something solid or even anthropomorphic. The "Extrusiarch" is not a power, it's a part of this process. Or, as MATT WALDRON aka irr.app(ext.) summarizes it: "The Extrusiarch: an entity-shaped non-entity lingering in the imaginary space between a thing and a process, between a phantom and a phenomenon, between a consciousness and an event. The bridge to the microscopic origins of creativity. So be good, for goodness' sake."
The two long pieces on this album represent exactly this boundary and the exchange between amorph energies and the material manifestations of our world, but when you want to take hold of them all will slip through your hands again... it's a drone-underlined sound-landscapes full of strange organic creatures, breathing, ringing, pulsing and mumbling.. a surrealistic 'intermediate world" you can enter often with amazement, but never fully understand.

SYM : 10 - VOICE OF EYE / SORIAH / THOMAS DIMUZIO - Aphelion CD
"Far from the sun, on voyage to translucency!"- After a long time NEW recordings by the legendary ether-drone duo from New Mexico, created in a long collaboration process with Buchla-master THOMAS DIMUZIO and spiritual throat singer SORIAH. A synthesis of old 1970 KORG synths and modern machines, of archaic vocalizations and instrumental and 'ethno' sounds, perfectly interweaved, with elements from dark ambient, ritualistic music and cosmic drone-muzak.... In the words of JIM WILSON (VOE): "The origins of Aphelion trace back to 2021, when Jim Wilson of Voice of Eye proposed a collaboration with Thomas Dimuzio. The initial concept was to create a deep space musical project featuring modern Buchla and 1970s-era Korg synthesizers. Eventually, they approached throat singer Soriah to see if he would be interested in contributing his unique organic vocal techniques to complement their ethereal drones, providing an intriguing counterpoint. This collaboration soon expanded to include Bonnie McNairn, who brought a contrasting feminine energy to the mix. Several tracks on the album are based on live collaborations between Soriah and Thomas Dimuzio at Gench Studio. These recordings were further developed and manipulated by Voice of Eye. Over time, the project evolved in its own inimitable way, culminating in the release of the CD Aphelion.. [...] - The tracks range from the tribal stylings of “Pulse Array” to the ambient drones of “Auracite,” to the noisier offerings of “Keplar Drift,” and finish with the climactic cataclysm of “Syzygz.” Aphelion is adorned with the stunning, otherworldly cover art by Kati Astraeir, which is beyond description. Kati’s beautiful artwork features silver highlights and is complemented by the packaging design of Thomas Dimuzio and Tilmann Benninghaus. The only suitable label for this release is our longtime friends at Drone Records in Germany."
6 tracks, 61:30 min., the artwork from KATI ASTRAEIR uses two special metallic pantone colours
SYM : 11 - MODELBAU - Muster CD
MODELBAU is FRANS DE WAARDs main project these days, the legendary dutch composer and label (now also publishing house) manager produced two long tracks of somehow nostalgic, elementary low fi ambience, full of micro noise details and with a rich conceptual background....- this is "ancient" analogue drone, thick and warm like cotton wool, created on now outdated recording machines, "small electronics", fragile and slow... ~ "Whenever I perform a concert, which is usually a one-off, I like to try something new that I have prepared and rehearsed. It's very rare to return to the music afterwards and record a studio version. On 25 November 2023, I played a concert in Münster, Germany, and I was very pleased with how it turned out. However, because I was given 30 minutes, I felt it was a bit rushed, and I recorded a new version at home shortly afterwards. The inclusion of shortwave radio sounds fascinated me at the time.. [... ] 'Disabuse Transmissions' was an additional piece, recorded at the same time, also using sounds from the communication world. The title refers to a short-lived cassette by Kapotte Muziek's first member, Christian Nijs, who died in 2002. Now that I am older, I tend to think more about people and events from the past and how I use equipment from those days (reel-to-reel recorders, cassettes, Dictaphones) that I didn't have at the time, or not to the extent I have them now. Finally, I am able to work easily with this old apparatus until the day they break down. Whatever comes after that is probably silence." [Frans de Waard]
