SIGUR ROS — Ny Batteri
More Info
Following the near unprecedented reception for their debut EP, Svefn-G-Englar, Icelands Sigur Rs deliver an equally extraordinary second record in the shape of N Batter. As with its sold-out predecessor, N Batter comes as a four track EP with three otherwise unavailable new compositions. First track Rafmagni Bi (trans. Electricity Over) is a remix based around the brass section from N Batter (New Battery), which follows (and is taken from the groups forthcoming debut album, gaetis Byrjun. Third track Bum Bum Bambal is a breathtaking rendition of an old Icelandic lullaby, which research reveals has never been recorded before, being handed down instead by oral tradition. The last track is Dnarfregnir Og Jararfarir, which translates as something like Death Announcement and Funerals. This is based on the Iceland radio service which each day announces to the nation who has died and what their funeral arrangements are. This is theme music, as interpreted by Sigur Rs.
The last two tracks have been chosen for the soundtrack of Angels Of The Universe, a forthcoming movie from Oscar-nominated Icelandic film director Fridrik Thor Fridriksson, which is based on a book by winner of the Karen Blixen prize for literature, Einar Mar Gudmundsson. Following their inclusion on this limited edition EP, both Bum Bum Bambal and Dnarfregnir Og Jararfarir will be available only on the Angels Of The Universe soundtrack. [label info]
