MUNDAL, ARE — A Prior Beef between two Mummified Insects

"On what is now the sixth album by this Norwegian artist we find two side-long pieces that witness him shifting slightly from the penumbral murmurings of previous releases to a more molten soundbed that has greater emphasis on disparate sources pulling together. Electronic rhythmic passages inspired by Conrad Schitzler’s work serve as beacons from which nicely crafted ripples of sound emanate, submerged voices make their presence felt and indiscernible tones, babble, thumps and random clicks and clangs help to create a moody setting closer to Nurse With Wound’s more tempered works than any dark ambient fare. Everything points to a maturity to Are’s craft I hope will continue to grow. Highly addictive material. Only 100, too, so get to it." [Richo Johnson / Fourth Dim Rec]
