"The origins of Aphelion trace back to 2021, when Jim Wilson of Voice of Eye proposed a collaboration with Thomas Dimuzio. The initial concept was to create a deep space musical project featuring modern Buchla and 1970s-era Korg synthesizers. Eventually, they approached throat singer Soriah to see if he would be interested in contributing his unique organic vocal techniques to complement their ethereal drones, providing an intriguing counterpoint. This collaboration soon expanded to include Bonnie McNairn, who brought a contrasting feminine energy to the mix. Several tracks on the album are based on live collaborations between Soriah and Thomas Dimuzio at Gench Studio. These recordings were further developed and manipulated by Voice of Eye. Over time, the project evolved in its own inimitable way, culminating in the release of the CD Aphelion.
This collaborative effort resulted in a unique collection of ideas and sounds, with each track developing into its own distinct texture and ambiance. The tracks range from the tribal stylings of “Pulse Array” to the ambient drones of “Auracite,” to the noisier offerings of “Keplar Drift,” and finish with the climactic cataclysm of “Syzygz.” Aphelion is adorned with the stunning, otherworldly cover art by Kati Astraeir, which is beyond description. Kati’s beautiful artwork features silver highlights and is complemented by the packaging design of Thomas Dimuzio and Tilmann Benninghaus. The only suitable label for this release is our longtime friends at Drone Records in Germany." [Jim Wilson / VOE]
