"Following the first 'Châsse' box-set released back in 2019, Vinyl-On-Demand now brings us the second volume of the highly acclaimed Zoviet France retrospective.
What we are going to get here are 17 LPs covering the years 1988-1993, featuring at least two completely unreleased works and offering many CD-only releases on vinyl for the first time. Housed in a deluxe wooden box and also including an exclusive t-shirt and a 24-page LP-sixed booklet, this set is no less than essential!
Given the cost and scale of the project, it's unlikely these will ever get a re-press. Only 400 copies have been made, so if you want one of these, it's now or never.
The UK collective Zoviet France is a strong contender for the ultimate cult electronic band. For nearly 40 years, they have explored and reported back from the liminal areas of music and composition, walking the margins where little is easily located and consensus reality melds with the hypnagogic and half-heard.
Having wilfully obscured themselves in Newcastle upon Tyne since their inception, Zoviet France has grown a loyal and obsessive fan base since the original lineup of Ben Ponton, Peter Jensen and Robin Storey made their recorded debut in 1982 - developing a radical relationship with cheap technologies, homemade acoustic instruments, primitive looping and sampling techniques, and basic dub trickery from which the group has crafted a distinctly unique vocabulary of sonic hypnosis.
With VOD's typical attention to detail, this set includes the entire Zoviet France discography covering the years 1988-1993:
The End of Nothing, the Beginning of Everything (LP, unreleased)
Shouting at the Ground (2LP, 1988)
Just an Illusion (2LP, 1990)
Russian Heterodoxical Songs (LP, unreleased)
Look into Me (2LP, 1990)
Shadow, Thief of the Sun (2LP, 1991)
Collusion (2LP, 1992)
Vienna 1990 (LP, 1991)
What Is Not True (2LP, 1993)
Further Collusion (2LP, 1992-1996)
All albums were fully remastered by Sam Grant for the vinyl format and are pressed on 180 gram vinyl. The box also include an exclusive t-shirt and a LP-sized 24-page booklet.
The box-set is already sold-out at the label, it's quite unlikely these are going to last very long..." [Soundohm]
