"Exquisite Bearbeitung von SHIFTS-Material (Guitars), eine CD von TIETCHENS, eine von VIDNA OBMANA, beide loten in dem ihren angemessenen Rahmen das Machbare aus – TIETCHENS erschafft DAS FREMDE und zugleich NEUGIERIGMACHENDE (und die Sounds erinnern in keinster Weise mehr an Gitarrenklänge), während VIDNA OBMANA Klangwellen entstehen läßt, die wenig freundlich sondern eher unheimlich und sachte zermürbend wirken, später in melancholisch-traurige Bereiche abdriften .. (selten hat man V.O. so düster gehört).

Exquisite Recycling of SHIFTS–guitar-material, one CD by TIETCHENS, one by VIDNA OBMANA, both create alien & eerie & dark melancholic stuff, very well done.
“Invited by long-time experimentalist Frans De Waard, vidna Obmana teamed up with Asmus Tietchens to work separately around the same source material, supplied by Shifts. Shifts is a project, which features mechanical orchestrated guitar sounds as foundation. Reminiscent of Glenn Branca’s work, Frans produced a 74-minutes collection of sources, which have been recycling, processed and altered by vidnaObmana and Asmus Tietchens in their own wilful way of working with sound. Again, part of vidna’s continuing fascination for experimentation, this is a very intriguing, challenging and deep work which will sheds again a different light onto these strings of metal. This is a double CD release, each CD presents vidna and Asmus in solo mode focusing onto the recycling of Shifts.” [label notes]
