More Info "JIM O'ROURKEs I'm Happy, And I'm Singing, and A 1, 2, 3, 4 (eMEGO 050, 2 x CD), jetzt wiederveröffentlicht, beschrieb ich in BA 39 (2002) als eine elektronische Suite in drei Sätzen: allegretto, allegro, adagio. Zuerst sind da die repetitiven rhythmischen Muster einer kreiselnden Akkordeonmühle, unterlegt mit einem tubadunklen Bassgedröhn. Im lebhaften Mittelteil gewinnt, zwischen Geticker und Gestotter und Pianogefinger, ein motorischer Uptempo-Marsch das Feld, umkreist von zwitscherndem Klingklang und Endlosrillengeleier und -geknister. Im elegischen Schlusssatz entführt eine Art Viola da Gamba, gefühlsinnig gestrichen, mit teilweise verrauschtem Vibrato, permanent umschwirrt allerdings von hohen, sirrenden Störgeräuschen, zu Dowlands elisabethanischem Blues oder der 'siebten Saite' von Marais. Elektronik als neue Vox humana... im Adagio... voller Burwells "Fargo"-Tristesse mit einem dieser Déjà-vu-Motive, die einem am Herzen nagen und einfach nicht mehr aus dem Kopf gehen. Die Neuauflage ist erweitert um 3 weitere Tracks, 60 Min. aus O‘Rourkes Archiv, wobei vor allem das ausgedehnte ‚Getting the Vapors‘ ganz seine dröhnminimalistische Handschrift zeigt. Ein sirrender Drone schnurrt und kurvt in Hell-Dunkel-Wellen wie eine Eispoliermaschine umher und schafft eine Spiegelfläche aus gefrorener Zeit. Bei ‚He Who Laughs‘ danach ist unruhig pulsierendes Getüpfel im Widerstreit mit Spieluhrklingklang und beide im Widerstreit mit sich selbst. We prefer the simple term computer when referring to the instrument used for the creation of this milestone album. Equal parts - schizoid pop, cracked minimalism, concrete drama and melancholic contemplation. It strikes us as a highly personal release. Given the nature of this warm beast, it seems likely to appeal across the board - electronic nuts, indie rock kids and yes, even the good folk of the established experimental world may take pleasure in the delicate nuances of Jim's hard drive.
