“it wasn't until i listened to his amazing "sections 1-6" lp on ers that did i pay attention to gareth mitchell's work. till then i only knew that he was a former guitarist of amp, and who had issued under his own name (well under his "philosopher's stone" nickname actually) 2 records for the kranky label. so as you can guess i was considering him to be in a more post-rock oriented mood till i listened to the "sections" lp and had i listened to it, did i check his "apparatus" cd on kranky (that was his 2nd), which was bringing in mind a lot of some of zoviet-france's/hafler trio's finest moments. it was a couple of months since "sections" lp release that thanks to absurd's review, that came in contact with gareth and he proposed "august; snow; pieces", a cd featuring 3 more diamonds of his work, showing his work's evolution and richness, starting with what someone can call an "abstract noises" piece, that moves to a 20 minute piece whose dense sounds float & create some really impressive ambiences to end with an extremely flabbergasting electroacoustic piece. if you liked "apparatus" & "section 1-6", then you're gonna fall in love with this one, or, if you're unfamiliar with gareth's work, then this is an essential introduction to philosopher's stone's amazing world! produced by research center for the definition of happiness's ioannina branch, limited edition of 141 copies.” [label description]
