"Collection of Five pieces from this Messiaen student, co-founder of the GRM, and winner of the Grand Prix National de la Musique in 1988. 'Resurrection Manual' (1998) pairs a live female voice against a 'sound-modeled' male voice, synthesized tones, and percussion. 'Kassandra' (1977) mixes ethnic instrumentation, natural sounds, and the Ensemble du Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique through themes inspired by the Greek tragedy of the same name. 'Sopiana' (1980) was written for flautist Pierre-Yves Artaud, and clearly displays the value Mache's studies with Messiaen through the use of birdsong in the tape portion (which is in turn emulated by Artaud). 'Amorgos' (1979) written for the 2E2M ensemble, 'exclusively includes almost non-engineered water sounds, all chosen for their rhythmical percussion character and not for the usual connotations of fluidity and continuity of water.' 'Moires' (1994) was written for string quartet (performed here by the intimidable Arditti) and synthetic sounds 'made on the Upic machine and sometimes reprocessed with an Akai S3000 (!) sampler and GRM Tools software.' Mache is one of the last great holdouts of the INA-GRM vinyl era, now documented in full digital splendor. Before you know it, Funkstorung will be name-dropping this guy in The Wire..." [Hrvatski]
